Day #2 Raw Food Diet Without Eating Nuts

by Mona on June 10, 2009

I love that my first post about my 2 weeks of no nuts on the raw food diet brought so many cool people (like you) out of the woodwork to talk about health, fresh food, and green smoothies. It’s so cool being surrounded with people who are health conscious and thinking about what they’re putting in their mouths. Just because we CAN eat things, doesn’t mean all of them should go into our mouths.

So here’s what was up for me today…

Day #2 Raw Food Nut-Free Menu:

  • Chocolate bliss super food drink
  • Salad: red leaf lettuce, broccoli, cucumber, yellow zucchini, cilantro, black olives, avocado
  • Dressing: (blended) young coconut juice & meat, cilantro, Thai green curry paste, 1/2 yellow zucchini
  • Another bowl of same salad
  • Fiesta Mole super food cold soup (with chia seeds, zucchini, sundried tomato,  nutritional yeast & fresh salsa added)
  • Two pieces of apple
  • Lots of watermelon

I think that’s all of it. It’s kinda hard to remember things I ate if I’m not writing it down as I go. So far, I don’t enjoy doing that, so it’s going to be from memory for now.

Realizing now that I didn’t take any enzymes, so I’m going to do that after I’m done here…

Tomorrow is my weekly trip to the Farmer’s Market. So happy about that.

I always go with a $20 bill and come back with a huge bag of fresh goodness to spread around my kitchen counter and in the drawers in the fridge. They don’t sell raw nuts there, only fresh fruits and veggies, so I’ll get lots of great stuff to last me several days without nuts.

Here’s the thing…

I don’t think I’ll have to go off nuts forever. I’m doing this 2-weeks of raw food without nuts because I was eating WAY too many nuts. Lots of creamy (awesome) sauces and raw nacho cheese for making Cheesy Kale Chips in the dehydrator and Jalapeno poppers in the dehydrator too. Lots of dates and bananas and cashews or macadamia nuts mashed up together…

I’m seeing this as part of my transition with raw food…

For the first time in my life, I’m actually caring about what I’m eating. I’ve gone through eating healthy because other people (like my parents) wanted me to. I’ve gone through eating the way I do because I’m doing it for the animals and I want to help them live longer lives. I’ve eaten certain ways because doctors told me to eat that way…

But now I’m finally eating the way I eat for ME. And I’m putting thought into it and realizing that every single thing I put in my body is actually affecting my body. It’s touching the inside of my mouth, my throat, my stomach, my intestines, my colon. It’s going into my blood stream and providing me with energy. It’s actually *becoming* me because that’s what I’m growing new cells out of.

And having gone through some serious issues in Oct. 2007 with my stomach, intestines, and colon…and having seen actual pictures of what they look like when they aren’t healthy, I’m now finally waking up to the fact that I am a 3-dimensional being and my organs are really in there, doing the best that they can to keep me alive. So now I’m getting on the same team as my organs. I’m rooting for them. And I’m going to do all I can to support them in staying nice and healthy and pink. Go Team!
