When I was 15, our friend Rick built a 4th bedroom in our garage.
He wore shoes about 3 times a year. And he had big long Willie Nelson braids and a wild beard.
He was awesome.
The room he built was the coolest thing. Ever.
I was going to have my own room – FINALLY!
First place I went when it was done?
Home Depot.
(I know, I know. The official name is THE Home Depot, but really – who actually calls it that?)
Went to pick out some way-cool paint for the walls.
Wound up with two walls green and two walls pink.
But not just any green and pink.
They had exotic names like Timid Lilac and Emerald Field.
Timid Lilac & Emerald Field in my bedroom when I was 15.
When I was in my bed, I had a view of the Emerald walls.
From my couch and chair behind my desk, I got to enjoy the faint Lilac.
My room got some funny looks over the next several years…until I came back from college and painted all 4 of them Golden Maize yellow.
Apparently four Golden Maize walls are less eyebrow-worthy.
Who knew?
But it was a BIG deal getting to move into that new room and paint the walls ANY color I wanted when I was 15…
It was a BIG deal to have free reign over my space in there…
Not needing to check in with my little sister, Rose, about how things were decorated…
Not needing to worry about what she thought or what she wanted…
It was my space. All mine!
So I proudly marked my territory with Emerald and Lilac.
And now, 17 years later, I’m marking my territory again with a 2009 version of Emerald and Lilac here on my new blog.
This is my new space where I can do or say anything I want.
I can decorate it however I want…
And if we’re lucky (which, let’s both agree, we are!)
You’ll read some things here that will make one, if not all of your eyebrows rise.
So let’s get started shall we?

Ok, ready? You look the SAME!
That is a good good thing!
Hugs,
Kat
Mona, it’s lovely to enter your Emerald and Lilac blog, and to hear your voice in your beautiful blog-room. Many blessings to this new baby, and to you!
Love, Hiro
@Kat: Sweet! That does sound like a good thing. Actually, Steph came over and saw the pic and said it looked like it could have been taken the other day, so that’s why I added the caption about it being when I was 15. Ha! This raw food stuff is good for my skin I tell ya.
@Hiro Thanks for celebrating and welcoming me back into the blog world. It’s been a couple of years since I had a consistent blog presence and now it’s time for the fresh start. Plus, these colors make me crave watermelon. Yum!
Echoing Kat – you look *exactly* the same now as when you were 15! Good for you!
And congratulations on your new blog that is all yours.
Can’t wait for you to raise my eyebrows!
xoxo
Victoria
Echoing everyone, you do look the same!
I love Timid Lilac and Emerald Field. I’ve always said one of my dream jobs would be naming the paint colors. Someone has to do it and I think it would be a blast to get really creative with names.
I’m happy you’ve launched this new space, all your own. Look forward to more. <3 Mahala
Yay! I feel like I’ve been waiting for this forever! Excited to have a place to send people to get an extra dose of MONA. Because who doesn’t need that pretty much all the time? So so cool.
Timid Lilac and Emerald Field seems like a great way to start. *jumps around*
@Victoria & @Mahala Wow! Amazing to hear about how similar I look. Well, not amazing, but I do think it’s funny. It’s been making me laugh reading the comments.
Do you think most people tend to change a lot from when they were 15 to when they’re 33?
Maybe I’ll start another blog called http://www.15to33.com and it’ll be full of pictures of people at age 15 and 33 and we’ll see how much (or how little) they changed.
Glad to be connected with you both here on my blog. xoxo
P.S. @Mahala – Can you point me to a color on internet somewhere and tell me what you would name it? How about this pink color on my blog? What would you call it? I bet you have fun with nail polish names too.
@Havi Grassy-ass! Grassy-ass! So glad you and Selma came by for a visit. I was just thinking of you guys because a baby hummingbird landed in my neighbor’s yard today – unable to fly more than 2 feet – so we were feeding it humming bird juice on the end of a blade of grass. Wondered what kind of juice Selma likes?
What a fantastic start to your blog!
And you do indeed look just the same, too.
Mona! Congrats on the new space!! Can’t wait to see what pops up here!
@Joely – Thank you! And I’m so glad you linked to your blog in your name from here because I hadn’t been there yet. Just did a quick scan of your recent post about “Is it true?” Really well thought out there and I appreciated your sharing.
@Jenn – Love that you’re celebrating with me. Thanks! This is the start of some good stuff. Especially me showing up and being seen. Important!
Congratulations on your new “room!” Could you extend the 15to33 blog to include people who are way past 33 already?
@Beverly – You can come in my new room anytime. No knocking required. Especially if you’re way past 33. xoxo
Ah, I love a challenge. I will get back to you with a name for this pink color. I wanted to do a series of colors named after writers and poets, and their characters. Another with cities and countries and so forth. Will have to think about a pink poet.
